Let's look at 2 awesome Automations in Monday that work with the Connect Boards Column + Mirror Column
Automation #1 - When this Status changes to something, change another Status to something.
This Automation is a game change because it allows you to trigger an Automation one board based on changes that happen in another Board.
Example
Say you have a Board for Deals and a Board for Tasks. And you have set up a 2-way Connect Boards Column connecting the two Boards to each other. Then you set up a Mirror Column in the Tasks Board that mirrors the status of the Deal.
With this setup, you could create an Automation in the Tasks Board so that when a Deal's Status changes to Cancelled any tasks connected to that Deal have their (Task) Status changed to Cancelled.
This is a pretty obvious example and not something that you couldn't achieve with a bunch of alternatives to Monday. So let's get a bit more obscure. What if you had a Board for your Cashflow Forecast (I use this setup) and that Board is connected to your Deals Board. When the Balance (status column) for a Deal is set to "Paid in full", you could have an Automation that marks the connected Cashflow Forecast entry as paid. Even better, you could have a filtered view in your Cashflow Forecast Board that only shows unpaid entries. That way, as soon as an entry is marked as paid, it is not only hidden by the filter, but the column totals update to exclude the paid entry meaning your forecast is updated immediately and semi-automatically.
Automation #2 - When {{something} happens, create an Item in another Board and connect them via a Connect Boards Column
This Automation allows you to automatically connect Items that meet the trigger and any conditions specified within the Automation with Items in another Board.
Example
Say you have a Board for Deals and a Board for Tasks. You could set up one or several Automations that create pipeline tasks when the Deal reaches certain stages.
Eg Deal Status changes to "Stale Lead" > create a Task called "Follow up with stale lead {deal name} - no reply for {?} days.
